Veterans, you served our country and now we want to be there for you!
Veterans in STEM is a free, academic support service for veterans and is part of the KC-BANCS program. We provide assistance with navigating your path through college, a mentoring program, stipends, research opportunities, and career-building opportunities. The program is designed to help Veterans in STEM members earn their degrees and find employment in the STEM fields.
VIS mentoring is based on the Army’s mentoring program and designed in part by a veteran and ROTC faculty member. In fact, we are connected with local and regional resources for veterans. These partnerships give us the advice we need to design a program that we hope will meet your needs. But we need your input!
KC BANCS is now enrolling veterans for Fall 2013. Think about it, talk about it, and sign up soon! If you have questions, contact VIS transition navigator Melissa Johnson-Tribout, at email@example.com.
Veterans in STEM have access to a transition navigator, the support of other students, special opportunities for real-world experience, contacts and connections with STEM employers, and much more.
- Academic Coaching – Informal conversations with the Veterans in STEM Transition Navigator about once a month, or more frequently. You decide how frequently. Through the coaching calls, you can set goals and talk to someone who gets it and who knows how to help you connect with resources.
- Cohort of Students – A group of students with whom you share unique struggles in an academic environment will help you gain the confidence and knowledge to be successful.
- Tutoring and Educational Support – The college you attend may already have supports in place that you are not aware of. KC BANCS will help you identify the best resources that fit your individual needs.
- Connections with STEM business and industry – Interested in a career in STEM, but don’t know which area? Veterans in STEM has opportunities for participants to connect with employers and learn more about STEM careers.
